introducing Cat Hammill jewellery

Our dreams have come true! The unique styles of Cat Hammill jewellery now adorn our dust-free table tops! Cat Hammill jewellery is a great Australian  label that’s only stocked at the hottest boutiques across Australia and NZ; so we’re psyched for her to join the bc family!

Cat came in-store last week and we were able to throw a few questions her way, follow the link for our interview and some images from her Winter ‘10 range that will drop in-store next week…

 bc: So Cat Hammill, when did you start up this beautiful brand and why?

  

CH: I found it hard to find cool jewellery, so I started making it myself, buying beads and charms from all over the world. This then grew into making jewellery for my girlfriends, word quickly spread and I had so many requests I couldn’t keep up. I soon left my job as a Brand Manager and started Cat Hammill in June 2008.

I love what I do every minute of the day and sometimes feel guilty that I am able to do something so fantastic!
 

bc: This interview must be up there with the highlights of your career! On your website it says you take a fair bit of inspiration from South America, what else inspires your jewellery collections?

 

CH: A lot of my inspiration comes from the new trends in fashion and what the celebs are wearing. I love the casual beach lifestyle too, particularly in LA. I spend days hunting in markets for ideas and inspiration. Usually not from the mainstream brands, but rather quirky eclectic, off the beaten track vintage stores in West Hollywood. I get inspired from cool, timeless relaxed fashion and love creating an individual look with my jewellery.

bc: You have your own jewellery label; does this mean you have more necklaces and bracelets in your wardrobe than actual clothes?

CH: My lifestyle is very casual so have a wardrobe full of jeans and tanks. My jewellery is a huge part of my look and layer it up every day. I can’t leave the house without my wrists piled high with all my cool bracelets, I definitely have a wrist thing going on!
 

bc: We’ve just received most of your Winter 10 collection in-store, what are the main themes running through this collection?

CH: The Winter 10 range tells a story of Bohemia meets Rock Chic. A cool mix of bracelet stacks and necklaces that can be mixed and matched with every piece, creating a look tailored to any individual, urban style!

The Angel collection is derived from the symbolic connotation of the angel wing. A symbol of spiritually, protection and love. All mixed back with funky bohemian style coloured beads.

Rock will delight the inner rock chic. My love of leather and wrap bracelets were a huge inspiration here.

Princess Skull is a sharp and clean collection featuring solid chunky charms against brilliant metallic bracelets and extra long suede and silver beaded necklaces.

 

bc: Who do you think your target customer is?

CH: My target customer craves something different and wants to stand out. Her urban, casual lifestyle is reflective in what she wants and how she dresses. I don’t discriminate in age; it’s more about the look rather than age.

bc: When will we get to see your Summer product in stores?

CH: Summer is released mid September!
